The ‘Gen Next’ fashion extravaganza is all set to hit the ramps with fresh and modish talents. The upcoming Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/ Resort 2020 with its 20th edition of coveted talent is jointly organized by Lakmé, the No.1 cosmetics and beauty services brand in India and IMG Reliance Pvt. Ltd., leaders in sports, fashion, entertainment, marketing, and management. The event is scheduled between 12th to 16th February 2020 with an aim to redefine the fashion trends through the fashion orients.
The fashion trend in simple words is defined as a followed trend or style of clothes, hair, makeup, shoes, and accessories for a particular time period. With the aim to redefine fashion aesthetics, pristine talent from all over the country participated in the ‘Gen Next’ program. Among 300 applicants, 4 creative designers Akhil Nagpal, Ananya Modi Jain, Chandrima Agnihotri, and Mannat Sethi and Harshna Kandhari were handpicked by the esteemed jury members comprising of Amit Aggarwal, Tina Tahiliani and Gen Next mentor Sabina Chopra among other industry experts.
AKHL by Akhil Nagpal, founded his label in 2019 inspired by “dramatic tensile structures, from tensile architecture and art installations to industrial equipment and manmade membranous objects.” Inheriting the industry exposure by working with Peter Pilotto in London, Amit Aggarwal, and Manish Arora in Delhi and graduating from Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design, he has tried to modernize the women’s fashion trend by infusing textiles using Industrial Glass yarns, rayon, and silk.
ALL2DEFY by Ananya Modi Jain, founded her label to defy all the societal norms. Looking for a revolution, she wanted her products to remind about the social responsibility of the consumer towards the world. Graduating from Parsons with a BFA in Women's wear, New York, Masters in Luxury Accessory Design and Management from Istituto Marangoni, Milan, she reanalyses the women’s fashion trend and makes it more functional.
CHANDRIMA by Chandrima Agnihotri launched her label in 2019 with an innovative approach towards fashion trends. The diversified approach of collection welcomes the folklores of India and cultural diversity to global platforms through fashion. Graduating from NIFT, Mumbai and interning at Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla and Rohit Bal, she inculcated her creative skills to explore the fashion trends. Inspired by the distinctive style of embroidery done by the Jat community of Kutch that is based on cross-stitch, the collection embodies the cultural richness of India.
GRAINE by Mannat Sethi and Harshna Kandhari drives the inspiration directly from the homegrown sweet ‘Kaju-Katli’ giving it a modern thought of creation. The collection is modernized and uses discarded rubber types that are modified and then cut into strips to blend with zardozi work. The idea to reuse the scrap and transforming them into the voguish fashion trends exhibit their innovative approach.
The Lakmé Fashion Week S/R '20 will be even more exciting and interesting. This is a must-follow fashion event in India.
