Do you open your closet in the morning to get dressed and mostly end up wearing the same thing every day, thinking – “I have nothing to wear.” Styling is the answer.
Knowing how to style an outfit isn’t an innate skill but something you can learn over time. Finding your own style can be difficult at times but it’s never impossible. Regardless of the style dilemma, you find yourself in, it’s essential to be able to adapt while still maintaining your uniqueness.
You may ask, why is it so important? Styling makes a huge impact on your personality. Great styling is also about approaching each day with utmost confidence, and the ability to feel beautiful in whatever you wish to wear. Only if you have the right wardrobe to make that happen!
For those of you just starting out, here are a few simple ways to become your own personal styling in no time:
Look for inspiration around you. Be it fashion magazines like Vogue and Cosmopolitan to doing a bit of research on Pinterest or Google, or even following your favorite fashion/lifestyle bloggers on social media – inspiration can strike you anywhere. Maybe you’re inclined towards Kim Kardashian’s bodycon dresses or Meghan Markle’s elegant and chic style, drawing inspiration from different sources is a great way to figure out what you like and dislike.
Personal Styling yourself is easy once you have a good starting point. Your closet needs to have certain essentials in order to find your true personal style. For example, T-shirts and jeans, a few skirts, tights, blazers and blouses (buttoned shirts) that fall beautifully on your body type. These basics will serve as the perfect starting point.
Shop For Accessories:
Accessories complete your look, enhancing the vibe you’re going for. Sport a wristwatch or a bold necklace with basic jeans and t-shirt outfit. Add delicate accessories to a dress for casual elegance, or statement rings to give your look some edge. Even a simple silk scarf or a statement clutch adds to your outfit and the personality you’re putting forward.
Your focus should only be on one thing – feeling beautiful in your own skin! Fitting into an ‘XS’ or an ‘S’ size shouldn’t make a difference. When you feel your best, you stand taller, smile wider and people notice that more than the size label on the inside of your dress.
Keep Updating Your Look:
At times, we feel nervous to wear outfits out of our comfort zone. We have a constant fear of what people will think of us. Know that there is a very thin line between actually disliking something and being afraid of wearing something new. Try it out just once, if you still hate it towards the end of the day, you have the option of not wearing it again. Give yourself the freedom to try out new things or even revamp old ones. Maybe you’re too used to wearing just a tee and denim, switch it up a bit! Next time try out a skater skirt paired with a basic tee or pull out your old buttoned-down shirt and knot it over your favorite knee-length summer dress. You never know you might start liking it.
The most important thing you need to know is to be true to yourself. Experiment with different patterns, accessories, shoes, silhouettes and more. Your own true style should reflect the person you are, and allow you to be proud of it while embracing your sense of Personal Styling in a creative and unique way.
