With the end of five days celebration, the great grand finale of Lakme Fashion Week 2020 was taken over by the prominent Indian designer, Amit Aggarwal on 16th February. The event was held at Mumbai's iconic Mukesh Mills, which is widely opted as Bollywood's favorite shooting location by the filmmakers.
All the fashion fanatics must be familiar with the event but for those who don't have much clue about it, here's all you need to know, Lakme Fashion Week is together organized by Lakme, one of the most well-known beauty brand and IMG Reliance Ltd., leading in fashion, sports, entertainment marketing, and management. Lakme every year comes up with eye-pleasing collections and manages to set new trends in the fashion industry.
In the past it has managed to take numerous national designers on the international level, the event looks forward to helping upcoming designers set their foot in the Indian fashion industry with initiatives launched like the Gen Next. The Gen Next creates space for the designers to showcase their collection on such a huge level.
Apart from Gen Next, Lakme Fashion Week has also taken the initiative of promoting sustainable fashion. The event aims to splash out and promote sustainability in fashion and play its role in protecting the deteriorating environment.
The Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2020 started with a blast on the 11th of February, and here we are celebrating the grand finale of the biggest fashion week of the Indian Fashion Industry. The collections we got to see this year was mind-boggling, ace Indian designers like Samant Chauhan, Shivan and Naresh, Gaurang, Ritu Kumar came up with some of their best creations and left the audience speechless.
After watching the collections of this year, the audience had high hopes from the grand finale and no doubt designer Amit Aggarwal was successful in standing up to our expectations.
Amit Aggarwal's fashion journey
The Delhi based designer is well celebrated for his sculptural shapes and ingenious application of industrial materials. The designer is a master in bringing pioneer concepts into a wearable. He uses heritage textiles and sustainable materials to change people's perspective on fashion.
“Coming up with my pret line, AM.IT, which discusses sustainability, while I was already doing couture — which is about luxury and opulence — is one severe risk that I took,” are Aggarwal's wise words.
Aggarwal's creation is beautiful and if you look at them closely, one can find out what the source elements were in their past life.
The designer makes us all feel that the Indian fashion industry is in safe hands, as he completely follows and promotes Sustainable fashion. The designer at AIFW autumn/winter 2015 opted bindi sheets to create ikat prints, and at AIFW spring/summer 2016 he used gamchas.
At Lakme Fashion Week summer/resort 2017 he upcycled discarded vintage Benarasi weaves. The designer when not indulge in creating beautiful collections look forward to traveling, he feels traveling forms the mood board for his collections.
The designer in 2002 graduated from the National Institute of Fashion and Technology, New Delhi. His father was an engineer and while observing him work on his projects, the designer noted ideas about form and structure. He always had a natural inclination towards fashion. His fashion story started when one of his cousins after looking at his drawings suggested he lookout for fashion schools as a career option.
Amit Aggarwal launched his label in 2012, the collections were mainly designer couture, including various materials and techniques. The label is mainly his way of looking at fashion, which includes innovation and re-invention. The core of his couture lies in molding and freezing forms into structures.
Amit Aggarwal put up his first-ever grand finale showcase, for Summer/Resort 2020, the collection was inspired by Lakme's beauty theme of '#Betterin3D'. The show took place at the iconic Mukesh Mills in Colaba.
The designer's grand finale collection titled AXIL, was an absolute fit within the theme "Betterin3D", as it was built around his vision of future, just like 3D makeup. The collection he displayed, showcased his signature aesthetic of futuristic biomimicry and allowed the audiences to travel into a multi-dimensional future that is empowered by juxtapositions.
On the ramp of Grand Finale, the couture created by the ace designer, stood out as he created the perfect amalgamation of structured and free-flowing designs, along with razor-sharp constructions, intricate patterns utilizing unusual Polymers gorgeously woven into fabrics- to magically create the ultimate 3D forms.
“To me, AXIL is a vision of the future as I see it. Every garment is designed to bring alive your vision of the world as it should be – a world as it will be when generations ahead of us embrace it with the same vision! I used rich fabrics in the collection and some classic colors; hues of greens, ivy, dusted mauves and rich berry reds – some of these shades, were inspired by the new 3D makeup collection by Lakmé. The theme #Betterin3D resonates with my design philosophy and I’m glad we got a chance to bring this futuristic collection of fashion and beauty alive” – Amit Aggarwal, Lakmé Absolute Grand Finale Designer.
Commenting on the futuristic showcase put up at the Summer/Resort ’20 edition of the Grand Finale, Ashwath Swaminathan, Head of Innovations, Lakmé said, “Partnering with Amit for the Lakmé Absolute Grand finale was the natural choice for our theme of #Betterin3D. Lakme Brand Ambassador Kareena Kapoor Khan at Lakme Absolute Grand Finale SR'20[/caption] Like every year, Kareena Kapoor Khan this year also graced the Lakme Fashion Week Grand Finale ramp by becoming the showstopper for the amazing visionary designer, Amit Aggarwal. This is for the first time that the actress turned showstopper for Amit Aggarwal.
She was seen adorning a bright green shimmery, off-shoulder gown, with a deep plunging neckline and flowy silhouette. The actress managed to shine like an emerald gem, on the runaway she looked drop-dead gorgeous, she carried the flare going from the waist beautifully. Kareena was spotted wearing a stunning lip shade from the latest range of Lakme adding depth and dimension to her showstopper look, and she once again proved to be the ultimate runaway queen.
“Lakmé Absolute Grand Finale has always been special to me, but this year with LFW celebrating 20 years and me celebrating 20 years in the industry – made it extra special. I loved how Amit’s collection interpreted the #Betterin3D theme, the whole show with fashion and beauty was futuristic. I especially love the new 3D makeup collection, but I must say that the lipstick shade I’m wearing tonight, ‘Elegant Pink” really enhanced by showstopping look. The matte effect with a hint of shine added a new dimension to my look that just stood out on the runway!”, said Kareena Kapoor Khan, the showstopper and Lakmé brand ambassador.
