The Cannes Film Festival, France’s most highly acclaimed independent film festival came to a close last week. The festival previews the latest in film and takes place at Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France. The festival took place from 14 May to 25 May this year and comes right on the heels of this year's biggest fashion event - the Met Gala.
The invite-only event attracts a number of A-listers and if you didn’t think the French Riviera could look any better, these Bollywood starlets are here to prove you wrong. From Deepika Padukone to Hina Khan, everyone put their best fashion foot forward for France's biggest night in film.
Having set the bar very high at the Met Gala in Zac Posen's 3D creation, Deepika stole the show at Cannes 2019 as well. On the first day, Deepika Padukone donned a custom Dundas gown - a black and white voluminous piece featuring puffy sleeves and a large bow. She finished off the look with extremely bold eyeliner and a sky-high ponytail fastened with a leather hair tie.
For the second day, Deepika walked the red carpet in an OTT lime green Giambattista Valli tulle dress, paired with a silk belt and soft pink bow. Her hair was tied with an attractive floral headband by Emily-London, with light makeup and nude heels complimenting the look. The fashionista also showed off some enviable outfits on her Instagram.
Also in attendance was Priyanka Chopra. After going all-in on the camp theme at the Met Gala, Priyanka went with Hollywood glam in a glittering black high-slit Roberto Cavalli dress, with black heels and soft curls. She kept the makeup sober with graphic eyeliner and pink lips.
For her 2nd red carpet look, PeeCee wore a gorgeous strapless Georges Hobeika white gown alongside beau Nick Jonas, who matched her in all-white. She accessorized the dress with a pair of diamond drop earrings, a sleek diamond choker, and nude makeup.
Next in line is the Indian queen of Cannes, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who enthralled her fans with a holographic piece reminiscent of a golden mermaid. The metallic gown featured a distinctive ombre train that reminded us of a mermaid's tail. She was accompanied by her daughter Aaradhya, who wore a yellow asymmetrical dress. With a nude lip shade, bold mascara, and straight hair, Aishwarya made heads turn in the Jean-Louis Sabaji ensemble.
For the second day, she walked the carpet in a daring all-white tulle and feather outfit by Ashi Studio. She kept her accessories minimal with a simple pair of diamond earrings by the label Avakian and opted for bold eye makeup and a messy updo.
Offering a change of pace, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja showed everyone you don’t need a dress to look fabulous. The Neerja actress opted for a white Ralph & Russo pantsuit with an attached train for her appearance. The look was styled with emerald and pearl layered jewelry, white contrast heels, nude makeup, and a sleek bun.
For her second Cannes red carpet look, she went ethnic-chic with an Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla ensemble. She wore an ivory gold gown featuring intricate thread work and an asymmetric drape, along with a choker necklace of the same fabric. Giving us goals in this ‘mod-maharani’ look, Sonam kept her makeup light with nude lips and contoured cheeks.
Finally, we have stars Hina Khan and Huma Qureshi - both of whom wore shades of grey and silver. While Hina Khan sported a sparkly silver see-through floor-length gown by Ziad Nakad for her Cannes debut, Huma Qureshi opted for silver summer couture designed by Gaurav Gupta.
With a range of looks, Bollywood celebrities really brought their A-game to the 72nd Cannes Film Festival.
