Since the passing away of fashion legend- Karl Lagerfeld, the place of the Artistic Designer at Fendi was left empty, but the latest fashion news states that the job of the Artistic Designer at high-end fashion label- Fendi has finally filled.
The celebrated Rome high-end fashion house and fur specialist- Fendi, on the 9th of September, announced that Kim Jones would take on duties once held by Karl Lagerfeld, who passed away in February of last year aged 85, in the role.
Kim Jones is well-known in the world of fashion for his mix of street-wear and high-end fashion. Rather than being limited to the new Artistic Director of womenswear at the Italian fashion house Fendi, Jones will also stay at the helm of Dior Men, where he has transformed the brand to appeal to younger consumers.
Jones' designs in the past have been adorned by A-listed celebrities like A$AP Rocky, Robert Pattison, and Rami Malek. He has also designed tour costumes for K-pop stars BTS. Born in West London, the high-end fashion designer was raised in Kenya, studied menswear back in London at Central Saint Martins before launching his eponymous line in 2003.
In 2018, Jones took on his position overseeing men's ready-to-wear and accessories at Dior and got famous for his dedicated collaborations. The widely known collaborations by him include- the Louis Vuitton x Supreme collection, for Autumn-Winter 2017, and Kanye West's defunct label Pastelle, in the early 2000s.
Since the day Jones joined the world of fashion, there were no restrictions on his creativity and work. He has also worked with artists including Hajime Sorayama, KAWS, and recently with Ghanaian painter Amoako Boafo on Dior's Spring-Summer 2021 collection.
It's in the fashion news that Jones will be responsible for the ready-to-wear, haute couture, and fur collections for women. In a way, he will be taking on duties once held by fashion titan Karl Lagerfeld, head of womenswear for over 50 years, before the legend's death last February.
The high-end fashion designer will be working closely with the Artistic Director of accessories and menswear at Fendi- Silvia Fendi. Silvia is also a member of the house's founding family.
Kim Jones will reveal his first Fendi collection during Milan Fashion Week in February 2021.
