The Delhi based designer Gaurav Gupta, with an experience of 15 years in the fashion industry is an alumnus of Central Saint Martin’s College, London. He has been honoured with the Future of Couture Trophy’ at AltaRoma AltaModa at Rome Couture Fashion Week. He is also a visionary and revolutionary in the world of fashion. He has showcased at the Lakme Fashion Week and the Amazon Fashion Week styling and dressing many celebrities.
At the India Couture Week 2019 organized by FDCI – The sixth day saw an uproar as he showcased his collection Undercurrent at Taj Palace, New Delhi. He also introduced and launched his jewellery line Gaurav Gupta Occasions Fine Jewellery along with this collection.
The collection was luring as it was handmade with white gold and hand cut diamonds. The range consisted of elegant neckpieces, bracelets, rings, earrings and ear cuffs. It was truly complimenting the attire and over all look of the models walking in his designed outfits.
The collection ‘Undercurrent’ was inspired by the waves of the ocean underneath, his belief that collections should be a wearable art is well nurtured and evident in his couture collection. The fabrics were flowy and delicate as he used organzas, tulles, nets and georgettes carving out bridal wear. Gowns, corseted sarees, pant suits, lehengas and dupattas saw use of Japanese bugle beads, feathers and pearl work. The colour palette consisted of slivers, greens, rose wood, soft violet, liliac etc. The imagery of waves were well defined and it gave a calm feeling.
The men’s wear collection had bandhgalas, jackets, tuxedos and sherwanis crafted with jacquard and rubia fabric. It was beautifully shown through hues of black, lava grey, white and ivory. A contemporary bridal wear that was adorned with chikankari and zardozi work was much appreciated by the audience.
The showstopper Diana Penty a model turned actress sure did fell nostalgic while walking for such a renowned designer, She wore a mermaid gown made of organza a flowy fabric with greens and greys adorned with the Japanese bugle beads. The waves at the bottom of the outfit made it the collection’s statement piece. Her smokey eyes and a clean tied twisted bun hair do and nude lips gave her the all embracing and comprehensive look. She wore the feather shaped ear cuffs to complete her look from the Gaurav Gupta Occasions Fine Jewellery.
Accompanying her was the Influencer of the year Diipa Khosla as honoured with this title by Elle. The first ever influencer to walk the runway of Indian Couture Week.
Gaurav Gupta’s collection like all other years was a heart throb making many brides to want them.
