Shein, Club Factory, and ROMWE, these popular fashion trend websites have been a go-to shopping for the latest fashion trend in the Indian fashion industry and fast fashion world, primarily for women and girls over the years in India. Now the Indian government has decided to put down shutters on them, and the Indian fashion industry is looking forward to it as an opportunity to expand their fashion market in the country, promoting the Vocal for Local campaign.
Indian Government’s Press Release
As the tension at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) between India and China continues along with threats by China, the Indian government on June 29, 2020, declared to block 59 Chinese applications. The government stated how India has emerged as a leading innovator when it comes to technological advancements and a primary market in the digital space. But recently, there have been raging concerns about the data security and safeguarding the privacy of 130 crore Indian citizens. The Ministry of Information Technology from the last few days has been receiving numerous complaints about the misuse of some mobile applications, which led the Indian government to take emergency measures.
SheIn To SheOut Real Quick!
Shein, the fashion trend website, which was founded in the year 2008 and majorly catered to females, found a mention in the long list of mobile applications that have been banned by the Indian government. Shein, Club Factory, and ROMWE fashion trend websites were amongst the 59 Chinese Applications that are set to go off the Indian market, collectively termed as “engaged in activities which is prejudicial to the integrity of India, defense of India, the security of the state and public order.”
Which Will Be The Alternative Applications For Shein, ClubFactory, And ROMWE?
The Indian fashion industry can’t be any less glad about this, as numerous Indian e-commerce platforms offer customers a wide range of clothing and accessories at reasonable prices, now they have a bright chance to grow their customer base. Some of the most popular ones are Myntra, Koovs, and Ajio, besides Amazon, Flipkart and others. The customers are a little unhappy about Shein, ROMWE, and Club Factory being banned as there are no other alternatives to such killer deals as these fashion trend websites offered.
For the beauty applications, YouCam Makeup and Beauty Plus are on the banned list too. Now you can use any other camera app that has fun makeup filters like Snapchat or even Instagram.
