The Lakme Fashion Week Winter/ Festive 2019 held at Mumbai, had the runway filled with a graceful decor of mirrors and flowers on its third day, the ambience was sheer beauty all set for the walks of the models wearing the famous Indian fashion designers Jayanti Reddy and Ridhi Mehra.

The collection ‘Benaras And Beyond’ showcased by fashion designer Jayanti Reddy at  the Lakme Fashion Week 2019 was a visual and creative capture of the holy city Benaras.

The clothes were an absolute beauty as it innovated and experimented with the silhouettes and styles. The inspiration and the sanctity of the mesmerizing place was showcased perfectly by the designer as she turned her garments into her canvas painting the exquisiteness of Benaras, Kashi and Varanasi.

Each ensemble gave a different and distinct look defining how every bride is unique. The outfits carried a feel of traditional yet contemporary vibe. Fabrics like raw silks, Banarasi woven fabrics, were coordinated with sheer organza and net, to add fluidity. There were a variety of anarkalis, dhotis, long kurtas, dupattas, lehengas and cholis, with designs inspired by natural motifs like flowers and mangoes. Scalloped hemlines, lace belts with shells and mirror work, along with heavily embellished dupattas were a definite trendsetter. Experimenting with the blouses, there were plunging V-necklines, while the backless cholis with excessive layering and tassels adding to the overall look of the garment.

The colours ranged from muted beiges to pistachio greens, ivories, flaming reds, wines, hot pinks and rich purples being dominant. Fashion Designer Jayanti Reddy used a lot of Banarasi work that added to the appeal. The exquisite purple lehenga with scalloped hemlines and a plunging V-neckline, teamed with a green dupatta stole the limelight.

The beautiful Pooja Hegde was the show stopper who was seen in a heavily embellished purple scalloped hem lehenga and dupatta, with a tasseled plunging neckline of the choli.

Ridhi Mehra’s “An Ode To Heirlooms”, earned a highly appreciative audience at the Lakme Fashion Week Winter/ Festive 2019.

She clearly stated through her collection that “Anyone may have diamonds but an heirloom is an ornament of a different kind.”

The collection was showcased in three parts- “Wisra which was a mix of Gujarati and Kashmiri forms for the Demi couture line with bohemian touches, Ziya, combined Patola motifs with chintz and Kashmiri embroidery making it look rich. Zaib which was a mix of ikat, bohemian and Kashmiri prints with a contemporary touch.

The inspiration behind this creation was taken from Kashmiri Pashmina Shawls, rare Basra Pearls, Vintage Jewellery and Silk- Hand woven Sarees. The silhouettes along with the integration of the artisans skills blended effortlessly creating a collection which was rich in heritage and design. There were embellishments, French knots with Dori couching and Aari work, along with vivacious prints. Using the splendor of royalty, the fashion designer showcased a trio of ikat, bohemian and Kashmiri aesthetics, along with customized belts.

The outfits were adorned with coloured stones, handmade resham thread, silk threads. The range consisted of structured jackets, peplum blouses, teamed with saris, chic jumpsuits while the anarkalis, skirts and shararas were pleated to perfection.

Free flowing and mesmerizing fabrics like satin silks, chanderi, organzas, georgettes were paired with belts that were embroidered with mirror, thread work and feathers along with an added accessory of potlis which were carried with grace by the models. The colour palette ranged from ivory, ecru, champagne, jewel, sapling blue to emerald green, Persian red and Topaz.

Diana Penty in an intricately, embroidered, ivory dazzling sequined lehenga, sheer striped blouse and dupatta with beads, closed the show for the Indian fashion designer.

Lakmé Official Makeup Expert at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2019, Daniel Bauer for the Jayanti Reddy and Riddhi Mehra show kept the face matte with a light contour. The eyes had a wash of matte nude eyeshadow and mascara. The look was completed with the Lakmé Absolute Matte Revolution Lipstick in the shade Mauve Me.
