The most awaited event of the fashion world– Met Gala, is virtual for the first time since its inception 72 years back. The biggest event of the fashion industry took a virtual turn due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The annual event of the fashion world usually starts from the first Monday of May. Keeping the situation in mind, earlier it was decided to postpone the fashion extravaganza- Met Gala, this year mainly due to the spread of coronavirus.
The theme decided for this year’s Met Gala was “About Time: Fashion and Duration” since the Metropolitan Museum of Art is celebrating its 150-year anniversary. The fashion world’s event is dedicated to raising funds for the Met’s Costume Institute.
The latest fashion news one must know is that Vogue is highlighting the previous year’s Met Gala moments including jaw-dropping red carpet ensembles and memorable moments. The fashion world’s most celebrated day concluded with “A Moment With the Met,” a YouTube Livestream.
The fashion world along with the fashion industry is all excited for the first-ever Virtual Met Gala, the event took place on 4th May at 6 pm ET.
The biggest event of the fashion industry is virtual this year and it commenced with the editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine and Condé Nast artistic director Anna Wintour’s address. The event also showcased a performance by Florence and the Machine and a DJ set by Off-White and Louis Vuitton men’s fashion designer Virgil Abloh. It offers a look at this year’s Costume Institute exhibition, titled “About Time: Fashion and Duration.” The exhibition includes 120 looks dating back to 1870, the year the museum was founded.
The live-stream looked back and celebrated the most memorable Met Gala red-carpet moments of all times, highlighting fashion moments of global celebrities like Rihanna, Sarah Jessica Parker, Lady Gaga, and others.
What Is The Buzz About The Met Gala Challenge?
Vogue teamed up with actor Billy Porter to create the #MetGalaChallenge to celebrate what would have been the 2020 Met Gala Pre COVID. In this challenge, individuals were asked to re-create their favorite Met Gala red-carpet look at home.
Celebrity participants uploaded their pictures on Instagram with the hashtag, then Vogue and Porter were to choose the winners to highlight the Instagram accounts of the Met Museum, the Met Costume Institute, and Vogue.
There is a charitable component for the virtual Met Gala 2020 too as Vogue announced to making donations to the costume institute as well as to A Common Thread, the fund it launched with the Council of Fashion Designers of America that benefits fashion designers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
