Renowned Designer, Anju Modi has launched her latest collection for Spring/Summer ‘19 called ‘Parnika’. It comes on the heels of her last collection heavily which was inspired by Japanese Boro textiles, and is currently being previewed at exclusive exhibitions.
According to the designer, ‘Parnika is a quest to triumph this universality of aesthetics. It is like an antidote for the all-consuming, increasingly exhausting times we’re living in. The art of simplistic design, however, is often concealed in that sumptuous pause that you didn’t think you’ll take. It can be discovered in novel ideas like an artist deconstructing his painting. Or even in a place that serves as your personal sanctuary. So naturally, we imagined it against the tranquil backdrop of Sambhar Salt Lake, renowned for producing the most ubiquitous ingredient found in kitchens cutting across all borders — salt. Yet Sambhar remains one of the lesser-known lakes of Rajasthan.’
How has it been expressed as an art form? In Anju Modi collection, designs emerging from the legacy of the Chinese tradition have been captured. The collection is expressed through classic leaf-based motifs along with the fine lines and intricate detailing that are the specialties of Ink Wash Art. The new leaf is a symbol of oriental beauty. It represents the character of moral integrity, resistance, and modesty.
Their all-white collection possesses atmospheric tranquility that is both serious and stylish, brought to life through almost ethereal digital prints. The ensembles — comprising of easy kurtas, flowing dresses, and relaxed palazzo pants — are an ode to the simplicity and complexity of nature; according to them, there’s a hidden allure to it. Even their motifs — imitating various flora and fauna — play in like an artist would with his blank canvas. The collection evokes a sense of calm that comes through in the details, with intricate embroidery used sparingly yet with conscientious attention to detail. Breathable, light fabrics like cotton and silk mulmul are used, making the pieces the perfect addition to your summer wardrobe.
This has been a journey for the House of Anju Modi, holding true to its signature of balance, comfort, and versatility and telling stories that bear meaning for them. This evolutionary journey is what they’ve always aspired to achieve and would remain the same for them for today and tomorrow, here on now!
The collection has been showcased at exclusive previews and is available at Anju Modi flagship stores. ‘Parnika’ refers to the first leaf to grow on a plant. As a fresh, modern take on summer, it is a must-have for fashion enthusiasts with minimalism in their veins.
