This year marks a special one for Lakme Fashion Week as they complete their glorious 20 years and along with them ace courtier and designer Payal Singhal completes two decades in fashion. Payal Singhal has not only carved a niche for herself in the country but is followed by many worldwide.
She celebrated this landmark as she showcased her stunning collection “Gypsies and Bohemia” on Day 1 of the Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2019. The collection was a perfect mix of her aesthetics and inspiration. The collection was all about art and craft. Gypsies and bohemia is a theme that resonates with her brand for 20 years and she stayed true to her DNA.
Creating the perfect ambience with Bohemian, Turkish and Moroccan bazaar set on the ramp with Turkish carpets hung above and the mosaic patterned ramp below, the show opened with bright colours and zest. Drawing inspiration from the Islamic architecture and the colours of bazaars in Turkey and Morocco the mood of the collection was for the free-spirited millennial wanderers.
The collection was marked with intricate thread work, embellishments, cutwork jaalis, frayed tassels, leather embroidery, appliqués, patchwork, pom-poms and 3D textures. Payal used a variety of fabric mediums for her collection ranging from georgette, tulle, velvet and organza.
The modern and boho silhouette spotted on the runway ranged from neutral whites to pastel blue, pale rose and a hint of neon with black. She chose to add some adventure to her collection in the form of colours. The colours, silhouettes and fabrics chosen made the collection apt for a destination beach wedding function.
Her latest collection catered to the international clientele in the form of jacket-cholis, lehenga-salwars, bomber jackets and deconstructed blazers along with her famed drop crotch pants, cropped skirts, saris and coordinated sets.
To complete the “Gypsies and Bohemia” look Payal added totes, fanny packs, belt bags and wristlets.
Payal selected her showstopper carefully to match the theme of the show that was glamorous and bohemian with a gypsy touch.
Bollywood’s most loved couple Shibani Dandekar and the very handsome Farhan Akhtar turned showstoppers for the designer, making their debut on the runway as a couple. The couple looked super stylish in coordinated ensembles.
Shibani with her super fit body dazzled in a multi coloured lehenga-choli teamed with a tassel cape. The lehenga featured 3D embellishments in the form of pompoms, while Farhan looked dapper in a printed kurta with churidar and a stole. The ensembles showcased oodles of colour and had and funky and quirky touch. The two showstoppers were the perfect end to Payal's celebratory 20th anniversary show.
The versatile collection can be effortlessly worn for Indian soirees, as well as international red-carpet nights and destination weddings. With a play of texture, colours and silhouettes the super talented designer gave a fresh touch to Indian Couture. Payal delivered exactly what we asked for and we absolutely loved every bit of it. Heartiest congratulations to Payal for a fabulous show!
