The latest in the fashion news is, Lakme Fashion Week's announcement about its avant-garde collaboration with péro for the launch of its Fall-Winter 2020 collection titled "DISCO 2020".
It's in the fashion news that the latest fashion collection takes inspiration from DISCO, a genre of dance and sub-culture that emerged in the 1970s from the urban nightlife scene. péro DISCO 2020 announced its launching at a time when we all needed something to cheer up. DISCO in the 1970s did the same thing and provided an escape from all the social and economic issues.
The fashion news states that it is a party where everyone for once can forget all that is happening around them and lose themselves to dance.
The latest fashion collection takes inspiration from the 70's DISCO fashion while giving it a unique twist. The woolen fabrics in the collection are woven in pure Australian merino, in close association with the weavers of Himachal Pradesh. Apart from handwoven wool, textiles have also developed in various other regions of India, like the cotton stripes and checks from West Bengal, mashru stripes from Gujarat, and handwoven silks from Bhagalpur along with mulberry silks from the south of India and light chanderis from Madhya Pradesh.
To bring in an element of DISCO lights, the chequered and floral textiles are given a matt and shiny sequin following the textile patterns. The latest fashion collection also showcases ornamental needlework that is rendered with hand-embroidered wool flowers using extensive embroidery techniques and play of sequin to add some shimmer.
péro also collaborated with 'Grounds,' a Japanese shoe label that has a unique approach to shoemaking. Amalgamating "Grounds" avant-garde concept of making the wearer float, with péro’s strength of handcrafting and upcycling, the latest fashion collection showcases hand-embroidered shoes with sequin and glitter. It also has fitted lights in transparent soles, making them glow in the dark – resulting in the pair of perfect dancing shoes for D I S C O 2020.
The Founder and Designer of péro - Aneeth Arora about the event stated- “This season we took inspiration from the 70's DISCO fashion, we looked at the silhouettes, colors, and patterns of the era, be it the retro stripes, the bold checks and also the bright colors like purple, mint, and red.” Aneeth further continued- "D I S C O 2020 evokes some sense of culture from which it originates, this culture communicates internationally in such a way that the wearer looks equally at ease in the streets of Paris or London, as she does here in India. The look is not about an age group or season; it is about a mindset, a willingness to incorporate the effortless DISCO style in one’s attire.”
Nikhita Punja Bhimjyani, The Head Fashion Events of IMG Reliance, said- “We are happy to collaborate with péro for the launch of their fall-winter collection titled D I S C O. This showcase is a glimpse of what is in store at the upcoming digital edition of Lakmé Fashion Week where we once again push the boundaries of Indian Fashion and look forward to future collaborations with péro.”
